Social Media Tip Of The Week: Engage Offline

Is your business like many when it comes to social networking? Do you hide behind your Twitter avatar? It’s so easy to get stuck in a rut by only updating your Twitter feed (not responding to tweets) or simply regurgitating your updates from your business’ Facebook fan page. But, what is the point of Twitter if you don’t engage with others?

My tip for you this week is to engage. Take a look at the way you use Twitter and ask yourself, “what am I getting from it?” Are you getting your money’s worth?

Sure, Twitter is free, but like any service or venture, it does cost you something – your time and energy. It takes time to look through your Twitter feed, search for people talking about your brand, respond to others, and make connections with your customers and potential customers.

My suggestion is to take these connections OFFline. Bring the relationship off Twitter and meet some people (possibly potential customers) doing amazing things right in your hometown.

Therefore, over the past few months, I’ve been working on bringing the Traverse City area a new networking group – The Traverse City TweetUp. Join us for our very first tweetup on Thursday, June 30th from 5-7pm at Left Foot Charley (behind the Mercato of Building 50). June 30th is also known around the world as “Social Media Day”. So, join us as we celebrate social media and how it has changed our lives – business and personal.
