Send Personalized “Get Well” Soup via Facebook

It’s cold and flu season and if you’re like me you’ve already experienced the worst the season has to offer. The next time one of your Facebook friends complains about being sick, you can go one step further by sending a can of “Get Well Soon” soup from Heinz. Currently this Heinz promotion is only available for the UK, but it could be headed to the US soon.

Using a custom web application on Heinz’s Facebook Page, fans can customize and pay for their soup. Users can pick from Cream of Chicken (gross) or Cream of Tomato (does it come with a grilled cheese?). Users can then pick out a custom “Get Well Soon” message with their name for approximately $3.00 per can. The customized can of soup will be delivered to your friend’s door in 3 to 4 days.

We love the creative use of the Facebook application and how it reaches fans on an emotional level. It’s a rather brilliant marketing tactic by Heinz. However, I’d have the option of express shipping as many people will probably be healthy again in 3 to 4 days.

Heinz Soup’s Marketing Controller, Matthew Cullum, described the campaign, saying

Because Facebook is a place people choose to engage with our brand, we want to be there. Soup can be an emotive product and Facebook taps into that. Our use of these channels doesn’t replace TV, but it is a great compliment to it because it allows the consumer to spread the word and they engage more than they would with traditional channels such as TV or Radio

It’s a great use of social media if you ask us. We hope more brands take note.
