If you are a nonprofit with a Facebook presence you will want to listen up! This is big news!
Facebook officially announced on Sunday that it will be rolling out a ‘Donate’ button for the nonprofits with Facebook Pages. Currently this is only available to 18 of the big name nonprofits, but you can submit a request to be added by filling out this form.
So what exactly does this mean for your nonprofit?
As a nonprofit organization, once you acquire this functionality you will now have the ability to use a call-to-action in your posts to solicit donations from your followers. It appears that Facebook gives users the option of suggested donation amounts – $10, $25, $50, $100, and $250.
If you donate your time to a nonprofit like we do (AC PAW Animal Rescue), this is awesome news. You will now be able to tell the story of your organization and ask for donations to be made right on Facebook. Best news of all – it sounds like Facebook will give 100% of the donations directly to that organization (with no fees like PayPal and others use).
A word to the wise:
We recommend to not overuse or abuse this feature! Remember the importance of building relationships with your followers, telling the story of your organization, and not being overly pushy.
Happy Facebooking, nonprofits!
